GLASS JEWELLERY CABINET

Our customer required a discrete electronic locking system…

for their large, single piece multi door display furniture.  The customer offers a highly attentive, one to one specialist purchasing experience of high end luxury products.

Challenges
The furniture would need to be built on site due to its size and so integration of the electronic locking system had to be as simple as possible.   The customers staff need to provide a seamless and elegant purchasing experience for their clients.

Solution
Through an initial consultation with the furniture manufacturer, Elelock specified and supplied battery operated cabinet locks with specially adapted external antennas to facilitate a convenient lock placement and card read position.
The team supplied on site training and ongoing end user support as the customer’s requirements evolved over time to ensure the system continuously met their requirements.

16 DOOR LOCKER SYSTEM

A Customer asked us for a system for a bank of lockers…

They required fingerprint access control where each fingerprint would open one of sixteen lockers.

Challenges
Most systems on the market would have required a fingerprint reader for each locker. This would make the system prohibitively expensive.

Solution
The Gemisys2 system is designed to control many locks from a single controller. We were able to configure the Gemisys2 AllInOne controller to accept Wiegand input from a third party fingerprint reader. Then, if the fingerprint is authenticated, open the appropriate locker door.

Benefits
Our solution allowed a highly featured device to be manufactured at a reasonable cost.

PIR DOOR CONTROLLER

Our client required a passive infra-red detector to…

automatically open a door.

Challenges
Although devices already exist to perform this function, the client needed the unit to have multiple modes of operation and parameters that were easy to configure whilst keeping the cost of manufacture low.

Solution
By using innovative software, we were able to design the system to use only three switch inputs and one bi-colour LED to allow the installer to fully configure the mode of operation and the operational parameters.

Benefits
Our solution allowed a highly featured device to be manufactured at a reasonable cost.

Using the Gemisys2 system, the customer was able to meet their requirements at a fraction of the cost of a system with sixteen fingerprint readers.

CASH HANDLING SYSTEM

Our client had an innovative cash handling…

system that counted bank notes and securely bagged the notes ready for collection by a cash handling service provider. They already had a proof of concept, but were unable to take the electronic design to a production ready solution.

Challenges
The existing proof of concept electronic design used many PCBs and connecting wires to control the electro-mechanical equipment within the unit. These PCBs also had to be manually tuned which was both time consuming and produced inconsistent results. This resulted in a high cost of manufacture along with reliability issues.

Solution
Our solution was to replace all of the PCBs with a single microprocessor controlled PCB. This allowed us to keep the manufacturing cost low while also allowing automatic calibration, self test diagnostics and functionality updates in the field.

Benefits
Our solution provided a cost effective design, both in terms of bill of materials and manufacturing time. It also made fault diagnosis easier and allowed firmware updates in the field to enhance functionality.

VOID BUILDING ACCESS CONTROL

Our client specialised in void building security…

They had an idea for a numeric keypad electronic locking security system that could be administered remotely without the need for users to carry any credentials. They wanted users to be allocated codes to use to unlock doors, but these codes needed to be managed remotely without any form of network communications with the locks.

Challenges
The door locks needed to be battery powered and therefore very low power. They also needed to be able to enable and disable codes without the need for any special equipment to configure the locks.

Solution
We worked closely with the client to come up with a system to allow special codes to be entered via the keypad that would enable or disable codes. Codes could also be emailed or texted to a user to allow them to gain access. These special codes needed to be encrypted to prevent malicious activities. We also designed the system with an SD card slot to allow card management and audit trail collection in the field. We also designed the central code management database software to allow the codes to be managed.

AIRLINE TROLLEY ELECTRONIC SEAL

Our client came to us with an electronic airline trolley…

seal. The seal was a numerical display that changed each time the trolley was ‘sealed’ so that any unauthorised opening of the trolley could be detected. They wanted us to design the next generation of the seal which would also lock the trolley.
This included the design of all of the mechanical parts, electronics and the software the lock and seal. We also had to design the management system software which had to be operated in many different locations simultaneously by communicating with a central server over the internet.

Challenges
The lock and seal needed to be approved for aviation use and needed to be battery powered and therefore low power. Some of the main challenges were implementing secure RFID access control, making the device waterproof and meeting the stringent aviation approvals requirements. We also had to create a management system that was resilient to internet outages so that the system could be operated for prolonged periods without internet access.

Solution
Elelock designed the electronics, mechanicals and software for the electronic seal and successfully took the product through aviation approvals. We also set up a brand new production line to manufacture the seals and have since made many thousands of seals.

The client was able to come to us with no design or production capability and we were able to work together right through to manufacture of the next generation product.

DOOR CODE LOCK

Our client had a range of mechanical door code locks…

and wanted to expand their range by adding electronic locks with RFID and keypad access control.

Challenges
The client had no experience with electronic locks, needed a battery powered solution so low power was important. The housing for the lock was made of metal so reading RFID cards was difficult.

Solution
The solution was a single PCB solution with a keypad and an RFID reader. The locking mechanism was motorised to keep power consumption low (compared to a solenoid). We designed the PCB and software for the product.

Benefits
Having an electronic lock allows easier and more flexible code management (eg. different codes for different people). Also, using RFID allows cards to be issues which prevents codes being seen while being entered.

CABINET CODE LOCK

Our client needed a low cost, low power keypad access…

control to connect to one of their existing motorised lock products.

Challenges
The keypad needed to be small, thin and inexpensive. It also needed to have multiple modes of operation, depending on the application.

Solution
The solution was a custom designed single PCB with low profile push button keys and access control built in. The processor could be configured in the factory to allow the mode of operation to be set after manufacture  this inexpensive keypad.

Benefits
The client now has the ability to add an electronic version of their mechanical locks to their product range, gaining all of the benefits of electronic locking over mechanical locking.
